How to write a letter to a bank for opening an account?

On being self-employed, you are required to carry out numerous chores on your own. The errands could include drafting your own payment reminders to writing a letter to the bank with an objective of opening an account for the same. If you've never opened an account, this task could seem a little complicated and off the hook. Firstly, you would need to take some preparatory steps like determining the bank that's apt for you to open an account, choosing the type of account, reading the details like deposits, fees and other requirements, if any. You could also be proactive and have your vital documents such as date of birth, driving license, contact information, etc. ready.

Having all the initial work done, it's now time to start drafting the letter to the bank to open an account.

Let's follow the steps mentioned below:

1. Write the bank information, i.e., the name of the bank, the branch address and so on. If you're aware of the name of the manager, jot it down too. If not, then just write 'Manager'.

2. Make sure to have a subject line mentioned.

3. Start writing the body with elaboration of the subject line.

4. Remember to state the type of account you would like to opt for and mention the amount you would like to deposit.

5. While closing the letter, keep the English language friendly and courteous.

All the personal information should be written at the top right hand column of the letter along with the date.

Also, this letter should be sent at the address of the bank (branch) where you wish to open your account.

Let's now take a look at a sample to help you understand better:
