1. Traffic jam
This word is very commonly used in a conversation. When all the vehicles are jammed on a particular road and it requires time to clear the traffic, this particular phrase is used.
E.g. I reached office at 11 am because of a traffic jam on the M.G. Road.
2. Stuck in traffic
This phrase is used by the person or for a vehicle who is facing the problem of traffic jam.
E.g. I have been stuck in the traffic for the last 2 hours.
3. Pull out
Pull out states about a particular vehicle that has been driven in a dangerous way or from the way where it should not be...
E.g. I somehow managed to pull out of the traffic so that I could reach the office on time.
4. Pull over
This phrase means that when a particular vehicle has been stopped by an individual or an incident, it becomes necessary for the driver to stop the car on the side of the road.
E.g. To resolve the fight between the two truck drivers, the policeman pulled over his vehicle on the side of the road
5. Contraflow
When there is a construction going on one side of the road, only half of the road is available for traffic of both sides i.e. Left and Right.
E.g. Contraflow is sometimes the main reason of traffic jam in city area.
6. Congestion
When it becomes difficult to find a way and move ahead because of huge traffic, there is supposed to be a congestion.
E.g. In village areas, movements of the cattle in the middle of the road often creates congestion.
7. Gridlock
Gridlock is a type of traffic jam where "continuous queues of vehicles block an entire network of intersecting streets, bringing traffic in all directions to a complete standstill".
E.g. Gridlock is the main problem of traffic jam on Sunday evenings and festival times.
