8 Beach vocabulary one must know

Who doesn’t love spending time on the beach? Summer is the perfect time to hit the beach. The warm weather gives a perfect reason to visit the beach and get some cool breeze. People visit the beach for various reasons. If you happen to get a chance to visit a beach especially in a foreign country, then don’t miss this opportunity. The beaches there are very different. Before you hit the beach learn some beach vocabulary that would help to communicate in English and know certain things.

It is essential to know these vocabs because we don’t use them often and hence they are not that common. In this blog, we will explain some beach vocabulary one must know.

8 Beach vocabulary one must know

1. Jetties

A jetty is a long, narrow structure mainly heavy rocks that protect a coastline from the currents and tides. They are usually made of wood, earth, stone, or concrete. They stretch from the shore into the water and help boats and other water vehicles to come home safely.


2. Coast

The coast is referred to the land that’s close to the sea or ocean. Beaches are always located on the coast. If you live in a place that is located near a beach, then you live in a coastal region.


3. Driftwood

Driftwood is the pieces of wood that are washed onto the shore or beach of a sea, lake, or river by the action of winds, tides, or waves.


4. Conch shell

Conch shells are seashells with a spiral pattern in which you can hear the ocean.


5. Tide pool

When the tide is low, it leaves a tide pool or a small pool of water. This tide pool is the home of many creatures.


6. Cover-ups

When you go to the beach, you carry a beach wear that makes the perfect wear for the beach. Cover-ups are light pieces of clothing that are either worn over or wrapped on top of a bikini. They are also worn to avoid getting too tanned or burnt from the sun.


7. Sandcastle

This is one of the must do activity when you visit the beach. Sandcastle is a structure made of packed wet sand.

 
8. Sunbathing

Sunbathing is when you bathe in the sun instead of the water. If you visit the beach in winter, then you can let the sun’s rays wash over you and enjoy the sun.
